The company used the 2024 ACT Expo to announce the appointment of Nikolas Runge as the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Runge will be responsible for scaling the engineering and product development teams to bring further innovation to its product range. The company rolled out 4,300 chargers in 2023 and the Board plans to build on this success.

Jim Castelaz, who founded the company back in 2009 and is now Chief Technology & Revenue Officer, described Motiv to T&BB as “Silicon Valley meets Motor City”.

According to Global Vice President  Eric Guter, each high-capacity station will be able to refuel 200 heavy-duty trucks or 2000 cars per day. This is a strategic move by the company (the largest supplier of hydrogen in the world) which already operates six hydrogen refuelling stations in Southern California. California was chosen due to the large green State subsidies available.

Speaking with T&BB at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, Eric Fisher, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Blue Arc, said that the group tried first of all to partner with various body builder partners and promising startups before eventually deciding to chart its own course.

John Dunn, formerly of Proterra and now working for Phoenix, said that Proterra Transit continued to build buses during the Chapter 11 bankruptcy and a “large number” of customer contracts were carried over following the acquisition.

Ballard launched its 9th generation 120kW fuel cell engine (FCmove-XD) for the HGV market which is set to go into series production by the end of 2024 at the Ballard factory in Oregon, with plans to move production to its future fuel cell production Gigafactory in Rockwall, Texas. 

Harbinger announced USD 400 million in (4,000 binding vehicle pre-orders) orders of its medium-duty electric truck chassis. The company has produced a patented proprietary electric platform (EV stripped chassis) that is sold to dealers for bodying. Harbinger’s electric chassis is available in three different wheelbases, including 158, 178 and 208 inches, and in four different gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWRs), ranging from class 4 through 6.

The companies are set to integrate Hexagon’s NG/RNG systems with Brudeli’s plug-in PowerHybrid technology to allow fleet operators the ability to maintain diesel ICE duty cycles while providing fuel cost savings and complying with Near Zero Emission Vehicles. Targeting the class 7 and 8 North American truck market, the partnership also aims to help OEMs achieve their various decarbonisation goals.

2023 saw the company planned to invest USD 530 million in the development of hydrogen technologies to create a complete hydrogen value chain from the production, distribution (storage tanks), consumption (hydrogen engines) and management (telematics) of green hydrogen at scale.

Honda is seeking new business collaborations to help it expand into the hydrogen power sector, as part of its global target of achieving “zero environmental impact” for all products and corporate activities by 2050.

There was plenty to report from the 2024 edition of the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo held at the Las Vegas Convention Center between May 20-23.

The companies announced that they had successfully tested their integrated electric drive system on a Class 7 demonstration vehicle at Eaton’s proving grounds in Marshall, Michigan.
