The UK startup has set up an umbrella company, KleanDrive, to expand into new repowering segments including light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks and marine vessels.

A key focus of the partnership is ensuring smooth communication between the vehicle and the grid via the charging system.

Built for the U.S. Department of Energy’s SuperTruck II programme, the prototype truck, described by Paccar as a “testbed for future product technologies”, was developed in order to improve freight ton efficiency by 100% compared to a 2009 baseline.

Contracted by Kaufland, eight Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 trucks will be used to transport goods from Kaufland’s distribution centre in Möckmühl to ten stores in the Ludwigsburg area. The five locations which were recently added were Vanguard Truck Centers dealerships in Phoenix, Arizona; Atlanta, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Austin and Houston, Texas.

From April next year, the Atego will be equipped with more cutting-edge safety assistance systems including, Active Brake Assist 6, emergency braking assistant and the Active Sideguard Assist 2 turning assistant.
