The Chilean market faced another month of declining sales in May compared with 2023, as reported by the National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC).

Year-to-date, truck sales have increased by 4.8%, with a total of 46,785 units sold compared to 44,663 units sold from January to May 2023.

From January to May, 12,029 bus chassis were produced, a significant increase from the 7,590 units produced in the same period last year.

The Indonesian market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw plunged by 42% to 27,187 in the first quarter of 2024 from strong year-earlier volumes.

The Malaysian commercial vehicle market over 2 tons gvw declined by 16% to 17,189 units in the first quarter of 2024 from strong year-earlier sales of 20,484 units.

The market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw in South Korea plunged by almost 27% year-on-year to 47,993 units in the first quarter of 2024 compared with strong year-earlier volumes.

The Thai commercial vehicle market over 2 tons gvw plunged by 42% to 54,398 units in the first quarter of 2024 from an already weak 93,107 units a year earlier.

The market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw in East Asia’s seven main markets, excluding China, continued to deteriorate in the first quarter of 2024 - with sales falling sharply by more than 28% year-on-year to 268,053 units.

The Japanese market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw fell by more than 24% to 82,222 units in the first quarter of 2024 after rebounding by 12% to 108,502 units in the same period of last year.

Tractor sales in FY 2023 (financial year ending March 31, 2024) increased by 19.0% to 69,089 units.

Demand for medium and heavy rigid trucks across India declined by 4.4% to total 250,969 units in FY 2023.

Bus and coach domestic sales (>7.5t gvw) in FY2023 (ending March 31, 2024) increased by 38.4% to 53,136 units.
