The Swedish manufacturer has opened its first battery assembly plant in Ghent, East Flanders, where series production of batteries for its heavy-duty electric trucks will begin in the third quarter of this year. 

Stuttgart-based Daimler Truck AG has announced that it intends to begin road trials with its 500km eActros LongHaul later this year. The first prototypes of the vehicle are already undergoing internal tests, but is yet to be tested on public roads.

The Swedish manufacturer will begin producing a new generation of battery-electric trucks designed for regional haul, with the range extended up to 350 km on a single charge, from the end of 2023.

Cummins Inc, based in Columbus, Indiana, debuted its 15-litre hydrogen internal combustion engine at ACT Expo in Long Beach, California. This hydrogen version of the fuel agnostic platform is expected to enter series production in 2027.

Domestic sales of medium-and heavy-duty rigid trucks enjoyed growth of 44.1% to 201,038 units in financial year (FY) 2021-22, up from 139,486 units in the FY2020/21.
