The company received an order for 900 new-generation eCanters from the Japanese leasing company, Yamato Transport. This marks the largest single order of the Next-Gen FUSO eCanter so far.

Indonesia is Fuso’s biggest overseas market and both factories in Jakarta have contributed significantly to the growth of the Fuso brand outside of Japan.

The project is to bring together the new Fuso eCanter, which was launched earlier this year, and Ample’s Modular Battery Swapping technology. The eCanter is to be installed with modular batteries that can be automatically exchanged at Ample battery swapping stations in a targeted time of five minutes.

The company has three factories in Japan, the Kawasaki Plant, which produces trucks and industrial engines, the Nakatsu Plant, which manufactures transmissions and the Toyama City Plant, where Fuso buses are produced.

The new distribution centre replaces the existing facility in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, which had been the company’s main parts distribution hub since it was first opened in 1978.

The new generation eCanter will initially be offered in 17 European markets (France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, Greece and Poland).

A definitive agreement is set to be signed in the first quarter of 2024, with the transaction to be completed by the end of 2024, pending legal and regulatory approval. Whilst details remain sparse, the goal is to unify their efforts in commercial vehicle development, procurement, and production in order to build a globally competitive Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer.

Daimler Truck NA’s new brand - selling trucks based on Fuso's eCanter - will specifically focus on “zero-emission urban mobility”, with three models and six configurations.

The new eCanter truck, which was first unveiled in 2022, replaces the first model which was launched originally in 2017 with several significant upgrades in between, including the incorporation of many advanced safety features.

Fuso says it sells several thousand Canter per year in Saudi Arabia; it is most commonly for local distribution of fast-moving consumer goods and food.

The “TractEasy” autonomous software was provided by EasyMile SAS utilising a range of sensors and cameras with real-time processing for autonomous hauling designed to automate the manufacturing process making it more efficient.
