Called ‘FH Aero’, the redesigned truck features a cab which has been extended by 24 cm at the front, making it more aerodynamic.

From the middle of this year, Volvo will start offering the FH16 with a new version of the ‘D17’, which it claims is the “strongest engine in the industry”.

The ‘FM Low Entry’ is a 19-32 tonne (GVW) truck which is intended for urban use in distribution, waste, and construction applications.

The new FL and FE Electric trucks can be ordered now, with deliveries beginning in the first half of next year. 

The international jury said they chose the FH Electric for its “performance, seamless acceleration, quietness, and vibration-free behaviour.”

Using the 'Volvo Connect' application, drivers can find nearby charging stations, check their availability, and pay to use the charger.

The first project, beginning this year, will take place at a mine in Garpenberg, Sweden.

The Ghent factory is assembling battery electric versions of the heavy-duty FH, FM, and FMX ranges on the same production line as the diesel and natural gas ones.

The FH – standing for ‘Forward control High entry’ – was launched to replace the ‘F’ series of trucks which had been in production for over 15 years.

There are now seven autonomous FH trucks operating at the site, managed remotely via a touch screen in the wheel loader. 

As a result of the increased energy storage, the FL Electric can now travel up to 450 kilometres on a single charge, while the range of the FE Electric is extended up to 275 kilometres.

The ‘Front Short Range Assist’, ‘Intelligent Speed Assist’, and ‘Tyre Pressure Monitoring System’ have been designed to comply with the EU’s updated General Safety Regulation (GSR) which comes into effect in July 2024.
