The Cavan brand was established by a joint venture called Beijing Cavan New Energy Vehicle Company Ltd (Cavan Auto), formed in 2023 with a registered capital of CNY500m (USD290m), in which Foton owns a 65% stake, Bosch Venture Capital 10% and the remainder is split between the other financial institutions.

Indomobil is the Indonesian assembly and distribution partner for several overseas vehicle brands, as well as commercial vehicle companies such as Hino, Renault Trucks and Volvo Trucks.

The initial phase will target hydrogen refuelling stations (under the TotalEnergies brand) in Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany over the next three years.

The joint venture facility will grow quickly over the next several years, with the aim of recycling one million metric tons of vehicle tyre material by 2030, representing a third of all end-of-life tyres in Europe. 

The 28,000-square-metre plant is being built in the Jiading Hydrogen Park, within the municipality of Shanghai.

The JV aims to manufacture battery cells for commercial electric vehicles at a 21-gigawatt hour (GWh) factory that is anticipated to cost between USD 2-3 billion and come online in 2027.

Fuel Cell System Manufacturing announced that it has started series production of its hydrogen fuel cell systems at its 70,000-square-foot production facility in Brownstown, Michigan. The target is to halve the cost and double the durability compared with fuel cell systems currently on the market, bringing them in line with conventional diesel engines.

MAN has now built a prototype vehicle, with sensors on the roof and sides of the cab. The vehicle has already successfully covered its first kilometres at MAN's Munich test site and was due to undergo real road testing before the end of 2023.

Clean Bus Solutions, a JV established by Blue Bird and finance house, Generate Capital, will allow school districts to pay a set fee per month as a way of procuring electric buses; making electric school buses more affordable and available to U.S. school districts. The service also includes charging solutions, maintenance and fleet planning services.

Starting in Germany, Hemtron will build a hydrogen fuel network on new greenfield sites and at third-party stations, concentrating on locations near logistics centres and motorways. 

With construction set for next year on a 65-hectare area of land in Šurany, the Slovak government is set to provide subsidies. The venture aims to begin battery production in Q2 2026, producing EV batteries with a combined annual output of 20 gigawatt-hours.

A startup cannot live on ideas alone, no matter how good; it must be able to turn them into a viable business case if it is to remove its dependency on investor funds.
