DAF has announced expansion of its Eindhoven manufacturing plant to accommodate the assembly of its electric truck range, with series production of the XD and XF Electric range to commence in spring 2023.

The 844,490-square-foot facility, which will be used to scale up production of a new electric refuse truck, expands on the existing production capacity of Oshkosh and its subsidiary, McNeilus, in the state.

With an initial annual capacity of 60 vehicles per year, the new site dedicated to the production of this specific electric truck has aided in the development of the latest ie truck platform. When compared to previous generations, the latest ie truck is 20% lighter in GVW, has improved batteries and a more powerful powertrain that allows for a greater range.

Jane Beaman has been appointed to Vice President and General Manager of the Pickup and Global Bus Business, Andreas Lippert to Vice President of New Power Engineering and José Samperio to Vice President and General Manager of North America On-Highway.

The company has started pre-series production of its new all-electric Syberia eCool temperature-controlled unit, designed to be used with urban delivery electric trucks.

Hitech Electric is an importer and assembler of small electric vehicles from China.

Built for the local manufacture of Volvo FH truck cabins in 1998, the plant, says Volvo, was a turning point in the truck builder’s history in Latin America. With it, the brand expanded its business in the region, with new vehicles and the use advanced technologies.

Westport has committed to investing up to USD10m a year over the next decade to support the construction and development of the new site, which it will undertake together with the local authority.

The credit facility is being provided by the Royal Bank of Canada and Export Development Canada to fund production of its Class 3 electric trucks.

While the majority of the hydrogen produced will be used in industry (including automotive), 10% has been earmarked as fuel for hydrogen vehicles, and Plug Power says it will also be installing a hydrogen fuel station at the site.

This comes off the back of a private funding round late last year in order to scale production of its battery cell plant in Arizona through upgraded equipment and technology.
