This year, the Michelin Group is celebrating an important milestone in its long history of motor tyre manufacturing. In 1923, the French company developed a method for applying a new tread to old tyres, thus extending their useful life. One hundred years later, Michelin Tyre Plc commemorated the anniversary at the ‘Michelin Remix’ factory in Stoke-on-Trent, UK, where the company has been retreading truck and bus tyres since 1968.

With production expected to be completed by the end of 2026, the USD 550 million investment is expected to create 380 jobs and support the increased production of CV tyres, all equipped with RFID (radio frequency identification) tags that enable more efficient asset management, including retreading.

Whilst South Korea’s biggest tyre manufacturer prepares for the launch of its new electric bus tyre range later this year, we decided to have a closer look at the rise of this tyre giant hailing from the East.

During a pilot programme, retreading services and warranty programme will be provided to fleets operating TBR (Truck, Bus, Radials) Normal Load (NL) tyres through authorised Indag retreaders in the three key state markets of Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

The “Krone Trusted Tyre Comfort” (KT231) tyre will feature a reinforced carcass and a widened tread depth (18mm), with a low rolling resistance. Krone claims that this product offers a cost advantage of up to 35 percent compared to competitive products on the market.

Based in the cloud, the application, which is available to download on any smart device, gives real-time data sets to drivers, owners and operators monitoring tyre health and allowing all work carried out by Giti Service Partners to be logged and visible to the fleets 24/7.
