The South Korean market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw fell by almost 11% to 51,640 in the fourth quarter of 2021 from 57,810 units in the same period of the previous year, based on data from various industry sources. 

Sales of commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw in East Asia’s seven main markets, excluding China, declined by almost 10% to 305,868 units combined in the third quarter of 2021 after falling by 17% to 338,776 units in the same period of last year.

Japan’s market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw declined slightly to 100,778 units in the third quarter of 2021 from an already weak 101,522 units a year earlier.

The market for commercial vehicles over 2-tons gvw across the Philippines weakened significantly in the third quarter of 2021, by almost 23% to 17,726 from already weak year-earlier sales of 22,888 units.

The Malaysian commercial vehicle market over two tons gvw plunged by over 31% to 10,476 units in the third quarter of 2021 from 15,288 units a year earlier.

The Thai market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw declined by over 24% to 81,585 units in the third quarter of 2021 from an already weak 65,795 units in the same period of last year.

Sales of commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw in Vietnam plunged by over 39% to 8,785 units in the third quarter of 2021 after declining by over 17% to 15,462 units in the same period of last year.

The market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw rebounded by over 89% to 33,195 in the third quarter of 2021, after plunging by 59% to 17,533 units a year earlier.

The commercial vehicle market over 2 tons gvw in South Korea declined by over 10% to 53,323 units in the third quarter of 2021 after rebounding by over 14% to 59,303 units a year earlier.

Sales of intermediate-, medium- and heavy-duty buses and coaches (7.5t gvw and above) in India increased by 171.2% in the second quarter (Q2: July to September) of fiscal year 2021-22, registering 1,730 units compared with just 638 units in Q2 of FY 2020-21.

Sales of medium and heavy rigid trucks (7.5t gvw and above) in India enjoyed robust growth of 102.2% in Q2 of FY2021-22 to register 46,019 units compared with  from 22,764 units in same quarter of the year 2020-21. Export sales of rigid trucks was also spectacularly up during the period by 221.4% to 6,084 units in the second quarter of FY 2021-22 from 1,893 units in the same quarter of the previous year.

The erratic behaviour of tractor sales in India continued during the second quarter of FY 2021-22 with sales growth of 397% to register 5,710 units compared with 1,149 units in the same quarter of the previous year (FY 2020-21). Tractor production increased by 467.2% overall from 1,046 units to 5,933 units and export sales up by 1115% to 243 units (20).
