The state government of Western Australia, together with the federal government, is committing AUD125m towards the manufacture of buses on the BZL Electric chassis in Perth.

Seeing Machines’ technology, which tracks the driver’s face and behaviour to identify and react to distraction or drowsiness, was tested and certified successfully for use in buses produced by Wrightbus.

Valeo says it will also be partnering with Seeing Machines to offer a “best-in-class” full system for interior sensing, available to the passenger car and commercial vehicle segments.

Orders can now be placed for Scania’s 40-tonne tipper truck, installed with the company’s own self-driving software which it has tested over six years in mining operations in Australia.

The company has equipped 115 Iveco Eurocargo ML150 4×4 trucks with the Allison 3000 Series six-speed fully automatic transmission with Power Take-Off. Built to handle steep inclines, the trucks have been shipped and will be in service across several Australian states facing bushfire emergencies.

The Commonwealth Development Bank (CBA) of Australia has agreed to an USD 80 million electric school bus finance package with Australian distributor GoZero, to fund the replacement of diesel school buses starting in Sydney.

The order consists of 78 new Fuso trucks, including 15 Canter parcel trucks, 60 Fuso Shogun heavy-duty trucks and three medium-duty Fighter trucks.

Hyzon announced plans for a two-vehicle commercial trial with New Zealand’s largest truck operator, the TR Group, beginning in March 2024. Hyzon will power two FCEVs, fitted with its single-stack 200kW fuel cell system which will be deployed for three months.

The two companies are working together to launch trials of Plus’s Level 4 autonomous Iveco trucks, together with “smart road infrastructure”, in the Australian state of Victoria. 

Plans for this project first emerged in Haskel’s white paper published in 2022 where it outlined plans to provide Coregas with its turnkey GENO hydrogen refuelling station (HRS*), designed for highly demanding refuelling profiles that deliver back-to-back filling, with a capacity of 400kg of hydrogen per day.
