The ‘Automated Vehicles Act’ (passed on 20 May) will require self-driving vehicles to achieve a safety level “as high as careful and competent drivers” before being allowed onto public roads.

The company’s electric heavy goods division has moved into a new HQ in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, UK.

The specialist facility offers HVS complete build capabilities encompassing a complex toolroom ensuring quality design and prototyping. Each of the prototypes will be used to test specific aspects of the vehicle involving strength, durability and efficiency.

The operator will reportedly take an initial delivery of 11 vehicles at the end of this year for deployment in the city, while the remaining 35 will follow in 2025 for use in the local Spree-Neiße district.

It was while mulling over the possibilities of “redesigning”, “reinventing”, and “reimagining” the traditional business model that co-founder and CEO Daniel Barel came up with the name REE Automotive for his startup firm, originally established in 2011 and now a public company with business premises in Israel, the UK, and the USA.
