Ballard has announced plans for a USD 200 million twenty-two acre fuel cell production Gigafactory (“Ballard Rockwall Giga 1”) in Rockwall, Texas. Ballard has confirmed that USD 40 million in subsidies/grants is expected from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office, through the Clean Hydrogen Electrolysis, Manufacturing, and Recycling Program.

As per the agreement, Kalmar will develop “automation-ready” terminal tractors which will then be installed with Forterra’s self-driving technology, called ‘AutoDrive’.

The Swedish manufacturer announced its financial results for 2023, reporting net sales of SEK552.8bn and an adjusted operating income of SEK77.6bn.

The ‘VPT60N’ is a fuel cell electric powertrain designed for use in cars, light commercial vehicles, and certain off-highway applications.

With an increasing focus on battery packs, electric powertrains and battery management systems for electric Commercial Vehicles (CVs), the firm has active plans to expand its customer base amongst global CV manufacturers.

The rebranded firm has elected to focus instead on military contracts and off-highway commercial trucks, which it believes will carry fewer risks and provide quicker returns on investment. 

The parent of DAF, Kenworth, and Peterbilt announced record sales revenue of USD35.13bn in 2023, a 22% improvement on its performance in the year before (USD28.82bn).

The Krone Commercial Vehicle Division generated EUR1.7 billion in revenues, an increase of 22.9% compared with the previous year of EUR1.374 billion.

The manufacturer is now offering a 6x4 tandem bogie axle configuration, meaning that customers can have an electric truck fitted with a tipper body or construction equipment such as hook lifts or concrete mixers.

The investment will fund the further development of Range Energy’s electric axle technology for semi-trailers, which can reduce fuel consumption in a diesel tractor-trailer combo or energy consumption in a fully-electric one.

The parent of MAN, Scania, and Navistar reported record vehicle sales of 338,200 units for 2023, a 10.7% improvement on the year prior (30,500 units).

Of the two divisions (CVS and RVS), Knorr-Bremse said the Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) Division profited from strong positive market developments resulting in an 11.5% increase in revenue to EUR 4,180.2 million (2022: EUR 3,750.0 million). Order intake was up 6.5% at EUR 4,212.2 million (2022: EUR 3,954.3 million).
