Scania Latin America says it has a remote controlled truck on trial in the heavy duty mining industry segment of Brazil, employing a Scania G 500 8x4 XT heavy-duty 60 tonnes gvw tipper truck.

‘PlusVision’ – vehicle perception software which Plus launched earlier this year – can now be procured on an Ambarella ‘CV3-AD655’ system-on-chip which, according to Plus, offers “industry-leading AI performance per watt”.

At this year’s ‘Global Technology Day’ – held at its test track on 27 June in Jeversen, to the north of Hanover – ZF Group’s CEO, Dr Holger Klein, observed that, while sales of fully electric cars are slowing down, hybrids are seeing “a renaissance”. Fittingly, ZF used the event to promote one of its latest innovations, a new hybrid drive system. During the rest of the day, however, we were taken onto the track to see how its advanced safety technologies from the passenger car segment are now being transferred to trucks.

To the west of Bursa, in a village called Hasanağa lies the headquarters of Karsan. The bus is operating on a 5.8km route, with 17 stops, navigating 20 pedestrian paths. The bus is managed by the local public transport company Remoted.

Aidrivers will contribute its expertise in developing autonomous driving software, while ZF’s Mobility Solutions division will act as engineering partner, handling integration, validation, and deployment of the technology.

The Series B investments bring the Canadian startup’s total invested capital to USD280m.

Volvo on Demand is the company’s own interpretation of the ‘Truck-as-a-Service’ concept, providing the customer with everything he needs to operate an electric vehicle.

REE said it has already begun deliveries of vehicles based on its P7 platform to dealerships in the U.S. and Canada; its order book is currently worth USD50m.

The partners announced that they are already testing the truck in the U.S., being the first Level 4 self-driving test on a Class 8 fuel cell electric truck to take place in the country.
