The company is set to deliver a BrightDrop Zevo 400 and BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric van by Q4 this year. The vehicles will be produced at GM’s CAMI Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada.

The 64,000 square metre facility in San Luis Potosi will house a new manufacturing facility for power electronic components and electric motors with 380 new jobs to be created over the next five years. The facility is planned to come on line incrementally with phase 1 beginning in Q2 2024.

The range, called ‘Luminus’, is based on the BZL Electric chassis and is available in lengths varying between 9.7 and 13 metres.

These buses are equipped with an Allison Torqmatic fully automatic transmission and a Cummins engine aimed at improving fuel efficiency, reducing emissions and lowering engine noise levels. This contributes to the significant growth in Allison’s export bus sales from China.

Since the facility was opened in 1998, Navistar has produced nearly 880,000 truck and bus chassis in Escobedo - including its 'International eMV' series of battery-electric trucks.

Its subsidiary, PowerCo, will build gigafactories for EV battery cells in Sagunto, near Valencia, Spain, and in St Thomas, Ontario, Canada, to open in 2026 and 2027 respectively.

Employing 2,100 staff, the new facility predominantly produces electrical and air brake system components and telematics products for the CV industry.

Suspensys's Mexican subsidiary Suspensys Sistemas Automotivos Ltda has moved its Mexican operations to Querétaro, while Castertech opens first warehouse abroad in the same city.

The deal will mark the first time that ZF’s OnTraX system for lane keeping assistance has been installed in a commercial vehicle platform in North America.

The Mexican building materials firm will use it at a ready-mix concrete plant in Berlin, Germany. 

The money being invested at Escobedo, where Navistar builds its medium-duty electric trucks, will go into expanding the cabin painting facility.
