Volvo Group North America will deploy the 8 trucks as part of a USD10m programme funded by New York Clean Transportation Prizes, an initiative from the state of New York designed to reduce air pollution.

The French manufacturer has been awarded a public contract for 73 battery-electric trucks to serve in waste management and street cleaning operations in the city of Barcelona, Spain.

The manufacturer has signed a five-year contract stipulating a firm order for 28 compressed natural gas buses and 13 ‘Charge NG’ battery-electric buses, both from the ‘Xcelsior’ range of 40-foot transit buses.

48 single deck buses, based on Volvo's BZL Electric chassis platform, and 39 double deck buses by Wrightbus will enter service in Greater London and southern Hertfordshire next year.

The new products are designed to increase efficiency, promote the use of renewable fuels, and open the market to electric mobility in both goods and passenger transport.

Five E-Tech D and D Wide trucks have already been delivered to Antwerp, while the remainder will be delivered to manufacturing and distribution sites in Ghent, East Flanders and Chaudfontaine, Liège.

The company’s new headquarters and manufacturing operations, comprising 400,000 square feet, will be located in the Turner Logistics Center, an industrial estate currently under construction.
