Marcopolo remains a traditional bus and coach body builder - this is the first time it has developed its own chassis and bus body together.

According to ANAC (Associação Nacional Automotriz de Chile), sales of over 19,000 CVs in 2022 is the best result in recent years, being 44.44% higher than 13,272 units sold in 2020,and 17.24% above 16,342 vehicles sold in 2019, before the covid-19 pandemic.

The Chilean commercial vehicle market closed the year to the end of September 2022 with registrations of 13,829 units, an increase of 5.9% compared with 13,059 units in the same period of 2021.

Marcopolo is delivering a total of 77 Senior Charter minibuses, which are being electrified by local company Reborn Electric Motors, to Chile's Renta Bus Link Services.

Starting in January this year, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil and Marcopolo have exported a total of 328 coaches and buses to charter fleet operators in Chile for transporting employees of several mining companies. 

The Chilean commercial vehicle market in the first quarter of this year (2022) again saw different performance outcomes for the truck and bus segments, with 3,898 truck sales and 398 bus and coach sales.

The Chilean truck market celebrated unit sales of 16,898 trucks in 2021, an increase of 58.7% over the 10,646 units registered 2020, a result that corresponds to the third best year of the past decade,  behind 2011 and 2012 when 18,585 and 18,309 vehicles were registered respectively - according to figures collated and released by ANAC (National Automotive Association of Chile).

A global memorandum of understanding was signed by fifteen governments at COP26, agreeing, among other commitments, to an interim goal of 30% of all new medium- and heavy-duty vehicle sales to be zero-emission by 2030.

In Chile, 11,780 trucks were sold from January to September, an increase of 68.3%, while bus sales totaled 1,279, down 38.6%, according to ANAC.

According to data from the National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC) in Santiago, the Chilean truck market grew in the first half of 2021 to 7,389 units, an increase of 69.3% compared with 4,364 units in the same period in 2020. The sector, ANAC says, maintained its pace of recovery for the tenth month in a row.
