Enviro200 buses from Alexander Dennis Ltd have taken part in a pilot on-road autonomous passenger-less scheme, ahead of operations with passengers that are scheduled for later this year. Bus operator Stagecoach has been conducting the passenger-less tests over the course of two weeks

The automatic transmission system for heavy-duty vehicles, which boasts 99.7% efficiency in direct drive and a 12.83 Nm per kg ratio with either 12 or 16 forward gears, is billed as a lighter, more efficient, and less expensive option.

The American company commenced building a 110,000-square-foot extension to the powertrain plant in February 2020, where it will build its parent company's "common modular system" for trucks and buses made in North America.

The range of the ZX5, equipped with a 738-kWh battery, will exceed 300 miles, which Proterra claims will give it the largest energy storage of any 40-foot electric bus model on the market in North America.
