Truck builder Acela Inc, based in Bozeman, Montana, has released a new 4x4 fire truck chassis, named the Straya. The company claims it is the first ever purpose-built wildland/urban fire truck chassis.

BYD Europe, the subsidiary of BYD Auto Co, has received an order for 48 units of its 12-metre low-entry e-bus from Hungary’s largest public transport operator, Volánbusz Zrt.

BAE Systems Inc has entered into an agreement with Hometown Manufacturing Inc to supply the firm with full-system electric drivetrains and power electronics for its heavy-duty buses.

Fuel cell manufacturer Loop Energy Inc has been named as the winner of a tender process to supply Tevva Motors Ltd with its 50kW T505 fuel cell system for Tevva’s 7.5 tonne electric truck platform. The two companies state they are now working towards finalising a broader supply agreement.

Enviro200 buses from Alexander Dennis Ltd have taken part in a pilot on-road autonomous passenger-less scheme, ahead of operations with passengers that are scheduled for later this year. Bus operator Stagecoach has been conducting the passenger-less tests over the course of two weeks

Allison Transmission Inc and Hyzon Motors Inc have been selected to provide the propulsion system for the UK’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered refuse truck. Aberdeen City council has chosen to pair a 250kW Hyzon electric motor with Allison’s 3000 Series transmission in conjunction with a 45kW hydrogen fuel cell.

The North American Council for Freight Efficiency concludes from the reports that significant portions of these segments are currently electrifiable, largely due to their use in repeatable routes that support overnight depot charging, reducing their dependence on sparce public charging infrastructure.

The Quantron Qargo 4 EV, unveiled at a press event at its headquarters, is a 4.5t truck with a 3.3m wheelbase, giving it greater manoeuvrability and a smaller turning radius for last-mile applications in inner-city areas.

The group's Commercial Vehicle Solutions division is designing the system specifically for urban applications, with the aim of preventing head-on collisions while also safeguarding passengers from the adverse effects of sudden and hard braking.  

Volta Trucks will begin pilot testing of the 7.5- and 12-tonne variants in 2024, with series production in the following year, thus expanding the range of weight & length options for potential Volta Zero customers.

Ebusco Holding N.V. has agreed a major framework agreement for up to 800 buses with Deutsche Bahn, the largest public transport operator in Germany.
