The near-series production prototype was presented at eMobility Days in Berlin earlier this month. The orderbook is now open with series production set for 2026.

Besides developing these trucks, the project includes investing in production facilities and feasibility studies into the European hydrogen value chain. The funding is to complement existing Daimler Truck projects focusing on liquefied hydrogen refuelling technology, storage and refilling logistics.

According to the terms of the contract, MAN will supply New Flyer with “several thousand” ‘V0K-08’ front axles and ‘HY-1350’ rear axles which, together with accompanying spare parts, are worth more than USD200m.

By diversifying funding sources and extending debt maturities to 2.5–3 years, the refinancing deal enhances Grammer’s liquidity and provides confidence to execute its strategic roadmap by investing in product innovation and cost optimisation.

The vehicle in question is an articulated ‘Urbino 18’ battery electric bus, one of fifty ordered in 2023 by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, the state-owned company which manages public transportation in the German capital.

Jost will work alongside other members including Hesterberg, HS Schoch and System Trailers to improve energy efficiency in commercial vehicle fleets in order to meet the EU’s climate goals (reducing fuel consumption by 10% for semi-trailers and 7.5% for trailers by 2030).

Both hubs are located on the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor, a trans-European network which connects the Nordics with southern Italy.

Daimler plans on delivering another 50 of these e-trucks before the end of the year, with the majority heading to European dealerships as demonstrator models.
