Continental officially inaugurated its new multimillion-euro corporate headquarters on the Hans-Böckler-Allee campus, in Hanover, Germany on December 13, 2023. The campus consists of six buildings, housing over 2,400 employees, in both the Tires and ContiTech groups.

Currently, the multinational is retreading more than one million of its commercial vehicle tyres a year throughout its retread plants/subsidiaries worldwide. This all falls below the ContiLifeCycle* sustainable strategy, aiming to maximise tyre longevity for customers and improve environmental sustainability.

Idem customers using its fleet management platform now have access to data collected from Thermo King products, including its refrigeration units and its ‘AxlePower’ energy recovery and storage system.

The truck, branded as ‘Paul Hydrogen Power’ (PH2P), is built on a 16-tonne Mercedes-Benz ‘Atego’ glider chassis and is powered by the ‘Voith Electrical Drive System’ (VEDS), which provides 310 kW of continuous power and 410 kW of peak power.

The deal follows on from a framework agreement signed last year, allowing for data transfer between TrailerConnect and TIP’s fleet management platform (‘TIP Insight’).

Schaeffler stated that the combination with Vitesco could realise earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of EUR600m per year before the end of the decade, through improved “revenue and cost synergies” achieved by combining their respective product portfolios.

Starting in Germany, Hemtron will build a hydrogen fuel network on new greenfield sites and at third-party stations, concentrating on locations near logistics centres and motorways. 

The first three of forty-six Mercedes-Benz eCitaro articulated 18m electric buses were delivered to German public transport operator Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH. These vehicles will operate throughout the cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg in 2024.

Now that it is approved for road use, the Carbon4Tank is ready to be serially produced.

The Iveco SpA / Plus Inc heavy-duty truck (Iveco S-Way) installed with Plus’s level 4 autonomous driving technology (‘PlusDrive’), is to begin its first customer trial in Q1 2024, with German drugstore retailer, dm-drogerie markt.

The company purchased the Delta S3 simulator from Ansible Motion and has been fine-tuning it for its specific use over the last 12 months. This will allow for virtual tyre tests, which is expected to shorten development times and save on raw materials when compared with track testing.

The new facility, spanning 1,300 square metres, can accommodate every stage of battery development between prototyping and small-scale production, according to Mahle Powertrain.
