From groundbreaking electric and hydrogen-powered buses to next-gen battery platforms, AI-enabled mobility, and innovative drivetrain technology, UITP 2025 underscored how commercial vehicle OEMs in the public transport space are accelerating toward a zero-emission, data-rich future.

At the summit, Iveco announced a strategic partnership with ABB focused on high-power charging infrastructure for bus depots and opportunity charging hubs, aimed at delivering turnkey charging solutions for operators. This agreement complements the roll-out of their E‑Way fleet.

Speaking to ABB representatives at the 2025 UITP Summit, they said that for the commercial vehicle sector, this deal is significant as electrification advances into heavier classes, from terminal tractors and off-highway equipment to electric buses, the need for high-performance power conversion grows.

The expansion will increase ABB’s production capacity for low-voltage electrification products, key components in the infrastructure that powers commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging, depot operations, and logistics hubs.

While the specific percentage of shares repurchased was not disclosed, ABB E-mobility continues to hold a significant stake in InCharge Energy. This deal gives InCharge more decision-making power over its future business operations.

The acquisition of the French cable protection systems company is part of ABB’s strategy to enhance its Installation Products Division and strengthen its market position in Europe, the Middle East, and North America, particularly in specialised markets such as OEM applications.

The expansion into North America will be enabled by the recent establishment of a manufacturing facility for EV charging stations in Columbia, South Carolina. This new factory aims to produce up to 10,000 chargers per year, serving both the passenger and CV markets.

Having purchased the full “e-package solution,” Daimler installed 41 charging stations (output of 360 kW) with a total number of 122 charging points at the depot. The result, up to four buses per charging station can be charged overnight at 90 kW. The supply agreement also includes maintenance and charging management software.

The new AMXE250 e-motor is a compact, permanent magnet synchronous motor designed for high-efficiency propulsion.

ABB has opened its newly refitted U.S. robotics facility in Michigan for manufacturing AI-enabled robotics and automation technology to help EV OEMs manufacture products more efficiently.

Using a prototype charger developed together with the e-mobility division of ABB, MAN charged up its ‘eTruck’ with more than 700 kW of power and an electric current of 1,000 amps.

A key focus of the partnership is ensuring smooth communication between the vehicle and the grid via the charging system.
