Although it is today a manufacturer of various electric products – including e-powertrains, battery packs, and electrolysers – American engine manufacturer Cummins Inc is also concerned about regulation that focuses only on tailpipe emissions rather than a holistic well-to-wheels approach. In a previous conversation with Truck & Bus Builder, Bill Lamb, director of Cummins’ engine business platform strategy, noted that, with the current rate of battery-electric truck adoption, commercial vehicle manufacturers will find it extremely challenging to meet future CO2 emissions reduction targets without the help of two alternatives to pure electric: hybrid and biofuels. We met again at the recent Road Transport Expo, held between 24-26 June at NAEC Stoneleigh, to discuss not only alternatives to electric but also Cummins’ progress towards Euro 7.

These partners will collaborate on the development and integration of hydrogen fuel cell technology into commercial vehicles, aiming to create high-performance drivetrains optimised for UK conditions.

Torc is now looking to hire engineers with expertise in machine learning, self-driving software and hardware, systems engineering, product engineering, and product safety.

Volvo commented that the acquisition will enhance its competency in battery cell and battery materials development.

As of 1 July, approximately 9,000 employees from research and development departments across the four brands were moved to the new groupwide team.

Hübner is actively exploring opportunities to deploy its hydropneumatic suspension system in electric commercial vehicles, with ongoing discussions taking place with bus manufacturers to incorporate the technology into future vehicle platforms. Meanwhile, the company will jointly showcase a demonstrator truck with this new airless suspension system at the next IAA 2026.  

This strategic move underscores Valeo’s commitment to supporting India’s electric mobility transition.

Readers may recall that, two years ago, we published a feature on TCCI Manufacturing, explaining why the longstanding Midwest supplier of compressors had decided to invest in a new facility on its home turf in Decatur, Illinois. In that article, Richard and Kara Demirjian outlined their plan to open a 260,000-square-foot “Clean Energy Innovation Hub” comprised of three facilities: a plant dedicated to the production of compressors for electric vehicles; a whole-vehicle test centre; and an academy to train the next generation of EV technicians. The innovation hub was officially unveiled by the governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, at the end of April 2025, and so Truck & Bus Builder used the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo to get an update on TCCI’s newest investment.
