Sany and Pony.ai to establish a joint venture win China to develop and sell Level 4 (L4) autonomous trucks for general goods transportation.

The Finnish company's technology is being piloted in a six-month project which will test its performance in the demanding weather conditions of the far north of Norway.

Overseen by the Centre for Connected an Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV), a joint unit of the Department for Transport (DfT) and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the UK government is opening a GBP41.5m competition to fund projects that will autonomous commercial vehicles to market.

The ‘Plus Build’ programme will install Class 8 trucks with ‘PlusDrive’, a product package comprising LiDAR, radar, and camera sensors together with the company’s proprietary autonomous driving software, within a single day.
