The Class 6-7 MD Electric series of trucks - the zero-emission equivalent of the MD Series launched in 2020 - will be supplied with SEA-Drive power systems over a five year period.

The company announced that series production is set to begin in the second quarter of this year at the contract manufacturing facility in Steyr, Upper Austria.

Preliminary specifications include a 300-320 kW motor, a 2-speed transmission, a 90-100 kW fuel cell stack, and a small lithium-ion battery pack to provide extra power.

The Partner Super truck is powered by the Ashok Leyland ZD30 BS VI diesel engine offering an output power of 104 kW (140 hp) @ 2750 rev/min and maximum torque of 360 Nm @ 1350-2750 rev/min. It is matched with a manual Ashok Leyland 6-speed overdrive gearbox.

JCB has stated that retrofitting the hydrogen engine - which is made for construction and agricultural machinery - into the Mercedes truck took just a few days.

The vehicle is the E-Delivery 11, which offers 11.4-ton gvw capacity and comes with a 300 kW electric motor and three LFP battery modules totalling 105kWh storage capacity and is capable of providing autonomy of up to 110km.
