Located at one of the UK’s busiest multi-modal logistics hubs, the facility will serve more than 60 commercial fleet operators based at the port, as well as numerous HGVs passing through, with daily traffic estimated between 3,000 and 6,000 vehicles!

This project is significant because it brings cost-effective green hydrogen closer to commercial reality, with Ceres still targeting a production cost of USD 1.5/kg by 2025.

According to Daimler, “among the announced additions are semitrailer tractors and platform‑chassis models featuring extended wheelbase configurations, alternative long‑cab designs with different roof profiles, and options with just two battery packs instead of the standard three.”

Nearby was Paccar’s aftermarket brand, TRP (Truck & Trailer Parts), based in  Haddenham, which offers parts and consumables across multiple truck and trailer brands.

The company commemorated the establishment of its heavy truck factory – now also its headquarters – in 1955, since which date it has built more than 1.25 million trucks and 2 million cabs.

Perhaps more significantly for Anadolu Isuzu’s international ambitions, 2025 marked its formal entry into the Saudi Arabian public transport market with a distributor agreement with New East General Trading.

The first units have been delivered to Italian transport company, LC3 Trasporti, as part of a 30 vehicle order. This is part of Daimler’s strategy to promote and sell its flagship battery electric HGV.

This accreditation means the bus can operate “on a planned route without a driver in the cab,” significantly expanding Karsan’s autonomous e-bus operations beyond existing deployments in Italy,  Switzerland and Finland.

They are made with a polymer liner and fully wrapped in carbon fibre composite. They are lightweight and have high capacity, making them ideal for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), including buses, trucks, and other heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

Employing 1,350 people, the facility manufactures a diverse range of vehicles, including the Urbanway and Crealis city buses, the Magelys and Evadys coaches, and more recently, electric and hydrogen-powered models such as the GX ELEC and E-WAY-H2.

The milestone vehicle was a battery electric ‘eSprinter’, assembled at the ‘Mercedes-Benz Vans LLC’ plant in Charleston, South Carolina, where production of the new eSprinter range was initially launched in 2023.
