With Thermo King’s expertise in electrifying transport refrigeration, the partners aim to achieve reduced fuel consumption in diesel truck-trailers and increased range in electric combinations.

The 2024 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham from 23 – 25 April, was a somewhat sombre affair without the truck OEMs, yet plenty of exhibitors turned up to display their new product offerings. Of course, the T&BB team was in attendance to bring you all the latest news from the show.

At the CV Show 2024, held between 23-25 April at the NEC in Birmingham, UK, EV manufacturer B-ON GmbH of Luxembourg announced a joint venture with Chinese car manufacturer Chery Automobile Co. Ltd, based in Wuhu, China.

The basic idea is to turn large-sized cargo vans into “mobile micro-depots” from which cargo bikes can collect and deliver goods during the last mile.

The bus will integrate BAE System’s electric powertrain, Ballard’s hydrogen fuel cell and Gillig’s low-floor body. Production is set to begin in Q1 2026 for the North American market.

By combining their assets and capital, the two European manufacturers will ultimately produce “software-defined” trucks which are capable of continually receiving updates over-the-air.

Through this partnership, Thermo King will offer refrigerated trailers to customers in the Americas which are powered – wholly or in part – by electric axles developed by Range.

Daimler Buses and BMZ are set to co-develop new generation (NMC4) e-bus batteries to be equipped in Daimler Buses. Improvements in cell chemistry, life cycle and energy density should result in longer range and battery longevity.  

Cummins and BAE Systems have been working together to produce and deliver ICE-electric hybrid drivetrain systems since 1994.

The brand’s locally assembled Euro V range now comprises the heavy-duty UD Quester and medium-duty UD Croner models.

This is claimed to be the first time school minibuses have been fitted with automatic transmissions.

The LNG agreement is seen as the first and important step towards creating the largest road logistics corridor in Brazil, with a focus on reducing CO2 emissions; initially it will focus on the North and North East of the country.
