The TransMilenio system in the city of Bogotá, Colombia, claims to have an electric bus fleet of over 1,600 vehicles, the second largest in South America behind Santiago in Chile.

A truck wheel is easily taken for granted. In fact, its plain appearance and simple construction are the products of no less care and ingenuity than most any other part essential to the making of a truck. For Karl Rode, who is Director of Engineering for passenger car and commercial vehicle steel wheels at Maxion Wheels, the ingenuity emerges from the fine balance maintained between weight and strength.

New York Mayor, Eric Adams, announced USD 77 million in federal funding for the New York School Bus Incentive Program (NYSBIP), which provides subsidies to help NY school districts fund the acquisition of 180 new electric school buses.

As part of the agreement Isuzu states it will make a substantial investment in the local Nagoya-based autonomous driving technology company.

Paccar has installed its first on-site power supply system consisting of 750 solar panels, at the BEST DAF Trucks centre in Barendrecht, Netherlands. In combination with an energy storage system, the solar panels power the three superchargers, able to fast charge electric trucks (maximum output of 360 kW) leaving the workshop.

The company’s three other Re.Wi.Re registered vehicle scrapping facilities are in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar and Surat.

The joint venture facility will grow quickly over the next several years, with the aim of recycling one million metric tons of vehicle tyre material by 2030, representing a third of all end-of-life tyres in Europe. 

Daimler Truck has signed an MOU with state-owned renewable energy company, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), to explore the feasibility of importing liquified green hydrogen from Abu Dhabi (in the UAE) to Europe by 2030.  

In the opening pages of its very first sustainability report, published in 2019, Iochpe-Maxion proclaimed its interest in “establishing a position of transparency for the market and society”. The Brazilian company – originally a logging firm and now one of the largest manufacturers of wheels and structural components for automotives and commercial vehicles – had pursued certain sustainability objectives prior to 2019, but these had been managed individually by its numerous subsidiaries.

The 100 trucks powered by B100 biodiesel are due for delivery starting May this year, and represent a landmark sale in the country.

Hexagon has supplied Ford Trucks with a complete hydrogen fuel storage system for the development of a fuel-cell electric-powered truck (F-Max FCEV) prototype. As a partner in the project, Ford Trucks will develop and deliver the F-Max FCEV, which will operate as part of a larger fleet of zero-emission trucks collecting data from around Europe.

The project’s explicit goal is to “reduce the overall time and cost of battery production by at least 20%, in addition to lowering the number of physical experiments required and reducing material costs.” This will ultimately increase the competitiveness of the European battery industry.
