The agreement strengthens AEM’s footprint in Asia and coincides with a new trade agreement between the UK and India.

This accreditation means the bus can operate “on a planned route without a driver in the cab,” significantly expanding Karsan’s autonomous e-bus operations beyond existing deployments in Italy,  Switzerland and Finland.

According to details shared at the press conference, the new Tokyo-based holding company will see Daimler Truck and Toyota each holding a 25% stake, with Hino and Fuso operating as wholly-owned subsidiaries.

Spheros, the specialist in heating, air conditioning, and thermal management systems for buses, has been independent from its former parent Valeo for nearly a year now, and company CEO Mark Sondermann wants people to know it. “We are no longer constrained by the strategic priorities of a larger group,” he told Truck & Bus Builder. “There is now only one priority, and that’s Spheros.” Following the Valeo acquisition in 2016, Spheros adopted its parent’s name; the reclamation of its own name marks a definitive break with the recent past. And the change is a timely one: “We can now be more agile. We can take faster decisions. It gives us the room to act in this very exciting and very dynamic market.”

They are made with a polymer liner and fully wrapped in carbon fibre composite. They are lightweight and have high capacity, making them ideal for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), including buses, trucks, and other heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

While the bulk of the money will be spent on improving rail and tram links within and between urban zones, a substantial part has been earmarked for establishing new bus connections and adding more buses to existing routes.

No specifics about the partnership have been released, except that the first products are set to be unveiled in the spring of 2026.

According to the terms of the agreement, MAN will begin deliveries of ‘TGX’ heavy-duty trucks to Gartner this summer, in batches of up to 350 units per year until the end of 2028.
